Social Media Image Preparation Guide
Social image preparation is a sequence: choose the frame, resize for delivery, add any identifying treatment, then compress the exported copy. Keeping these stages separate makes revisions easier.
Choose the crop before the pixels
Use a square or 4:5 frame for feed-oriented images, 9:16 for vertical stories, and 16:9 for wide covers. ImgCase currently performs centered ratio crops, so begin with a source whose subject is already near the center.
Start with the center crop tool, then use Resize when a platform requires exact dimensions.
Prepare profile images
Important faces and marks need breathing room because platforms often apply circular masks. The avatar ring tool previews a circular crop on a 512px square.
Build grids and long screenshots
The grid splitter exports 2×2 or 3×3 tiles. Publish the tiles in the order required by the destination. For chat records, receipts, or tutorials, the stitch tool joins images vertically.
Add attribution carefully
A subtle text watermark can identify a creator without obscuring the subject. Use enough contrast to survive recompression, keep it away from likely crop edges, and retain an unwatermarked master.
Export checklist
- Confirm aspect ratio and safe margins.
- Resize to the required dimensions.
- Add a watermark or title only when needed.
- Compress a copy and inspect text and gradients.
- Remove sensitive metadata before sharing.
Frequently asked questions
Should I crop or resize first?
Choose the composition with a crop first, then resize the result to the platform dimensions. Resizing first can leave too little room to reframe.
Does a watermark prevent image theft?
No. It identifies a source and may discourage casual reuse, but it cannot guarantee control after publishing.
